Cognito Performs At ‘Wake and Bake’ Show, Strange Music Fan Submits Rave Review Of Evening

Last Saturday night, April 10th, Cognito headlined the opening show for the Wake and Bake Tour. Playing for a small crowd at the Cafe Culture in Chico, California, Cognito did his thing and ripped it. Although the show was small, from the sounds of it, Cog is following the footsteps of fellow labelmate Tech N9ne in building his fanbase brick by brick. One fan in particular, Cole Payan, was there to share what he would describe as a night he would never forget. As it turns out, he ended up hanging with Cognito and his posse into the wee hours of the morning, and also got a sneak peak of Automatic, Cognito’s debut release from Strange Music set to drop on April 20th. Here’s his story…

Cognito is the fucking man! Automatic is hella legit!” – Posted by Cole Payan on TRTN forum

Alright I got a story for everyone about the Cognito show last night…

So Im at the show chillin outside with Cog before the show starts, talking about a bunch of stuff. Then he’s all like come to the car i gotta show you something (no homo). So we go to the car, and he shows me the Automatic CD case. So im like fucking sickk. Then he pops in the album and let me preview a few songs. THIS ALBUM IS FUCKING SICK. The tracks i got to hear were beyond legit, hella exceeded my expectations for the album. So then Cog did his thing on stage, performed like 5 songs in front of the huge crowd of like 7 people. The show was hella under-promoted and nothing like the rest of the shows on the tour apparently, but glad to see that Cognito still showed up and did his thing.

So then me, Cog, D-Buck, and his other buddy (cant remember his name) went searching around the streets of Chico for parties for a couple hours. Fucking hilarious, hollering out at hot chicks who walked by and shit lol. So were talking about random shit as were walking, got some info about some Strange Music related things. But we were all just hanging out so I didnt really wanna bombard him with questions lol. We ended up not really finding a party (it was a weak night in Chico), but it was sick as fuck to chill with these dudes and just hang out like Ive known them for years. All three of them are down to earth as hell, and just treated me like family. Hell, Cog even got me a hot dog and mountain dew from this cart downtown haha. Sucks that we couldnt really find a party to hit up and the left to drive back to the bay around 2 am. Definitely gonna remember this shit for a looooong time.

MY REVIEW OF THE TRACKS I GOT TO PREVIEW

Intro – Gives a build up to the first track, if you ever heard the intro to Fort Minor’s The Rising Tied its kind like that. Except Tech’s voice instead of Jay-Z

I’m Goin Crazy – Got to hear the first minute of it. This shit gave me chills. Hella sick beat, flow, solid track. Great opening to the album.

Pill Poppin Music – People have been hearing this song live and raving about it, and it is a hella sick track. Hook is tight, and Lynch destroys the last verse.

Violated – Everyone has heard the snippet of this, and Cog has been saying “just wait till you hear Tech’s verse”. So he fast forwarded to Tech’s part, and HOLY SHIT he was not kidding. tech absolutely rapes this track. he starts off sounding like something out of a Nine Inch Nail’s song, then just starts busting. Fucking insane.

Born 2 Be Fly – The second single that people should be hearing soon im guessing. And you can definitely tell why they chose this as the next single. Beat is sick as hell Cognito kills the first verse, and Kaliko and Tech both kill their parts of the song.

Everyone that pre-ordered this album is going to enjoy it, if the rest of the cd is as awesome as these first few tracks then this album will be getting hella spins.

Just had to share this with you all lol. 9 days til Automatic drops, get hyped!

Special thanks to Cole Payan for posting this review!
